It's about drawing conclusions.</li></ul> Together, these two stages form the backbone of creative work. Using a simple framework can help to purposefully design your environment to support each state of mind.

They converge by deciding on a particular approach, designing the implementation details, and starting to build.</li></ul> You can use this simple framework to tell you which state of mind you should be in at a particular point of a project.

<ul><li>Stroll through a library or bookstore to see what books draw your attention</li><li>Browse online communities for unusual ideas</li><li>Watch movies or documentaries on provocative topics</li><li>Subscribe to email newsletters, YouTube channels, or podcasts outside your usual listening habits</li><li>Peruse your notes on various topics even if they don’t seem directly related</li><li>Grab a drink or coffee with a friend from another field who might have a different way of looking at a problem you’re facing</li><li>Walk around a new neighbourhood or city and absorb the sights and sounds</li></ul>

Ways to purposefully diverge

<ul><li>Decide on a particular deliverable you will produce by a specific time, then discard any information that’s not strictly necessary</li><li>Set a deadline and promise to deliver a draft to someone who will hold you accountable</li><li>Make an outline with the step-by-step sequence of points you want to cover</li><li>Chunk related tasks within your project into clear groups</li><li>Prioritise your tasks from most to least important</li><li>Give yourself defined periods to make progress</li><li>Stop researching and focus on summarising your current notes.</li></ul>

Ways you can purposefully converge

No creative work is ever truly finished. A final product or deliverable doesn't mean it is the end. It's just one iteration. The final product of one round of convergence can be used to gather outside feedback as a starting point for the next round of divergence.

3. Consider your energy levels 

<ul><li>Get enough rest (7 – 8 hours), </li><li>eat a healthy diet,</li><li> exercise a few times a week, </li><li>drink enough water, etc. </li><li>Low energy typically leads to procrastination.</li></ul>

4. Find ways to have more energy

Trying to get it perfect will lead to procrastination, and understanding that nothing will ever be perfect will help you beat procrastination. By breaking the habit you will go to places you would have never imagined before.

6. Make sure perfectionism isn't holding you back

LLists will help you feel like you're doing something, and crossing something off as "DONE" will keep you motivated. Making a list will reduce the risk that you forget to do something.

Because if you want to manage your time better, you have to know where it goes first.How do you know your time? Keep an activity log - the specific method you use doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is that you want to keep a record for at least two weeks. Preferably, you want a whole month of recorded activities.

Step 1: Know thy time

“Go through all the recurring activities in your log one by one. What would happen if you would stop doing them?” If the answer is: “All hell breaks loose.” Don’t change anything.But if your answer is: “Nothing would happen.” You’ve hit gold. We all do activities that have ZERO return. I call those activities time-wasters.

Step 2: Identify the non-productive work

The time and labour involved in doing one pair of socks or an entire basket are the same. You want to be effective and efficient with your allocation of resources in many different ways.

Frequency is personal.  You may be batching daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly. Experiment and see what works. Sleep procrastination—also known as bedtime procrastination—is exactly what it sounds like: the decision to put off going to bed when there's no external reason to. (When we say external reason, we mean injuries, illnesses, and emergencies that might keep you up later than intended.)Sleep procrastination can take the form of a few minutes or several hours. And while these isolated incidents may leave you feeling tired the next day, over time, they can contribute to sleep deprivation.

Staying Up Late

Most of us understand the value of a good night's sleep. Sleep supports everything from physical health to proper brain function. And it can help us boost our immune systems, reduce our risk of certain chronic health problems, and otherwise keep ourselves in tip-top shape.Many of us want to get the CDC's recommended seven hours of sleep each night. The problem is that temptations like Instagram and Netflix keep us from pulling it off!

Sleep Is Important, But So Are Other Temptations

The easiest way to ensure you get enough sleep each night? Have a set bedtime and a set wake-up time that you stick to. If specific times feel too rigid, you could always give yourself a bedtime and wake-up window. It is very important to keep a consistent sleep schedule.Of course, it is nearly impossible to go to sleep at the same exact time each night. But keeping within a one- to two-hour window for both going to sleep and waking up is the most effective. Just be sure not to use the flexibility as an excuse to indulge in some sleep procrastination.

How to Stop Procrastinating and (finally) Go to Sleep: The Routine

If you already have a set sleep routine, figure out what's keeping you from it. What is it that's keeping you up at night? Is it work, TV, conversations with friends—or something else entirely? Once you understand what the problem-causers are, you can build boundaries around them.

Many of us know that <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/emres/longhourstraining/color.html">the blue light emitted from our devices</a> can disrupt our Circadian rhythms, affecting our ability to fall and stay asleep. But screen time may be affecting your sleep schedule in other ways, too. The activity you're procrastinating sleep for could be an app on your phone, a show on your TV, or even work on your computer, so consider setting boundaries around screen time. Rohrscheib recommends ending screen time at least one hour before bedtime, and Avena recommends keeping electronics out of the bedroom entirely.

End Screen Time 30 to 60 Minutes Before You Go to Bed
