Visible and Loud Achievements

Psychologically, we always have been social creatures — for us to guarantee survival and security, we will have to form groups, assigned based on one's capability. To be accepted into a group, it is a must to prove oneself to others.

Up until now, this behavior remained as the society rewards those who acquired ideal skills or resources. For example, people exhibit their skills or cars, houses, and other luxurious stuff in exchange for, usually validation, wealth, or even power. These 3 resources are vital for a contemporary person to thrive in an attention-based society.

Proving Others Wrong

Proving Others Wrong

When we encounter scenarios where your performance fell short of other people's expectation — whether they may express it implicitly or explicitly — we have the tendency to derail from our reason towards achieving our goal as passion towards proving others wrong.

Although highly motivating for some, it could be unsustainable in the long run or when you achieve that goal. You might even question yourself if you did all of these for yourself, and not for others.

Let People Underestimate You

Let People Underestimate You

When I was searching for self-productivity videos, I came across one of Mel Robbins' videos, which is about the "Let Them" theory and it piqued my interest and changed my viewpoint about life. This theory states that to achieve a peace of mind, one should not let people act, behave, or express what they want, whether it may be a praise or a criticism.

The thing here is, we should not be too engaged on how people view us and not let it take control of our own life as we couldn't control their behavior towards us, especially when they haven't fully understand our course in our life.

Why is it Important?

Why is it Important?

Letting them act (unless their actions become way too malicious) reduces the mental energy exerted. You don't get too affected by their opinions and help you clarify your judgments. All of these would be redirected towards gaining focus and achieving your goals. You may acknowledge their criticisms and use it as your fuel, however don't let it be the sole reason why you are fighting for your goals every day.

Let Actions Speak for Itself

Let Actions Speak for Itself

Let people doubt and misread you while you are there preparing yourself in life, ready for achieving your dreams and successes in life. Being underestimated, though usually perceived as a damage in our ego, when you are brave enough, could be a gift. I do admit that it would take a huge amount of strength and humility, but it would also be worth it if it means being at a peace of mind ready to grind. Often, quiet people win and become unstoppable amidst the world that asks for constant validation. Let the actions speak for itself!
